This one day safety training course has also been developed as part of the DANIDA funded OHS project being managed by SAMFA. It was crafted in response to specific requests from members who needed to fulfill requirements of ISO accreditation. One of these requirements is to ensure that all personnel starting with those at the lower end of the skills ladder are effectively made aware of the hazards and risks that they face in their daily work routine. Ensuring that employees have an understanding of the correct procedures when working with various types of machinery, hazardous substances and the correct use of safety equipment is of paramount importance to all employers today.
SAMFA has been fortunate to secure the services of a multi-lingual trainer fluent in English, Afrikaans, Xhosa and Zulu to present this material.
The course was very successfully trialled in all 3 regions during November of 2007, and is scheduled for a second round of presentations during 2009 provided their is sufficient employer interest. Click here to put your name on an "interested parties" list.
SAMFA is indebted to the British Surface Treatment Suppliers Association (www.bstsa.org.uk) and the UK Health & Safety executive (www.hse.gov.uk) who kindly allowed us the use of these materials on which to base our local training. The BSTSA is one of five divisions of the Surface Engineering Association of the U.K. (www.sea.org.uk)
