This course was presented over three sessions between Sept 16 and October 14 2009, at the the Noi-e-Voi venue in Johannesburg. It was the first opportunity that we had to bring the course to Johannesburg and we were pleased to have had 11 candidates enrolled for this initial presentation here. As always, with the first time run of a new course in a different region there were several obstacles to overcome, but the course was a success and the foundation built here will enable us to streamline even more for future presentations.  We are indebted to the management at Noi-e-Voi for making a workshop available to us, to Greg Tearnan for lecturing on pre-cleaning, to Ferro Industrial Products for the donation of powder and to Applied Coating Technologies for the loan of  equipment and for training on how it worked and how to use it.

This course was originally succesfully piloted at the Westlake campus of the False Bay FET College during February & March 2008. Fourteen trainees participated enthusiastically. Click here to see a group photo and read their  opinions.

This course has now been successfully piloted in the Cape and in Gauteng. It had been anticipated that it would be possible to launch in KZN during the final quarter 2009, but due to lack of adequate response in this province it will now probably have to be re-scheduled for early in 2010.

A second run to "finesse" the content before taking the program to other centres was  run on October 1, 15 and 29 of  2008. Five trainees attended this course and judging from their comments, it was much appreciated. The next course was originally scheduled to start on May 12, 2009; it was postponed and eventually five new trainees started on Tuesday June 2 with the final session ending on Thursday July 2.  We are now gauging interest for a further run in the Cape.

There has been some progress however. The difficulty of finding a suitable venue for the practical work appears to have been overcome. An offer of the use of industrial premises has been made and this is being evaluated currently.
