SAMFA organises two meetings a year in each region. The first is a mid-year event that incorporates AGM business within an interesting and informative programme.  A trade expo offering industry vendors an opportunity to display their technologies to metal finishing operators is included in regions where there is sufficient demand.  The second meeting is a year-end report back and social evening usually held in late November or early December.

Without doubt, the year end meeting at Jeppe Quondam on the evening of Thursday, December 1, was the biggest and best ever event that SAMFA has arranged for members. their guests and friends.

Whilst originally aiming to sell at least 60 seats, the response was overwhelming, and we had 90 seats sold.

Everything worked out very well. The food was excellent and plentiful and we have received compliments from many of you.

Main Event:
Colin Underwood, our corporate entertainer specialist did not disappoint. His show was hilarious, the tricks he performed will remain a topic of conversation for months to come. Read more about Colin at
http://www.colinunderwood.com/

Follow up Event: During the course of the meal that followed and afterwards we were truly blown away by Kai Kai, a Congolian entertainer whose  singing, trumpet and bongo drum playing created the pleasant ambience that added to everyone's experience. His choice of music satisfied everyone's taste and contributed in no small way to the ulitmate overall positive accolades that the SAMFA has received.

The Big Prize - A flat screen TV:
A prize draw  where participants were eliminated when their number was drawn and the final survivor would win a flat screen TV created riveting interest as we came down to the last few numbers. In the event, it was the last woman standing that took home the television. Special thanks go to Astro Holdings, a prominent member in the aluminium supply, anodising and powder coating business.

In addition bottles of liqueur were won as consolation prizes by holders of some of the numbers that got elimated along the way.

These were sponsored by Krome Metal Chemicals

Photographs will be posted here as soon as they have been forwarded to us over the next couple of days.

The next meeting in this region will be the AGM and mid year event in July or August 2012.

The positive experiences of past years convinced our KZN association members to once again get together at the Barnyard Theatre for their 2011 year end event.

And so on the evening of Friday, December 9, about 65 persons went along to enjoy the excellent "Big Top Rock" show.

Billed as a rock concert with a difference the show includes music, aerial acts, jugglers and a circus atmosphere. The organisers believe that it is the biggest, most entertaining and most daring show ever produced by The Barnyard Theatres.

Our members and their guests report having enjoyed the entertainment immensely. Click here to see a few photos taken on the evening.

MEETINGS
The year end meeting took place on  Thursday November 24 at 3:30 pm - Fairways - Bellville Golf Club

Our Key Note Speaker was veteran electroplater and accomplished public speaker, John Danks, from Durban. A past winner of the annual KZN toastmasters humorous speech competition, John shared some of the lighter moments as well as the scary moments of his more than 45 years in the metal finishing industry.

There were some very funny stories, and he had the audience absorbed and in stitches for the hour that he entertained us.

We were fortunate to be able to persuade some members from the Welsh Choir to join us later in the afternoon.  The twelve singers that entertained us under the able direction of Chris Jones put on a memorable performance with items ranging from love songs, to ballads and great pub ditties.

Everything was rounded off with an excellent finger-fork snack supper.

Perhaps it had to do with having the choir with us, but whatever the reason, more people stayed on to socialise and for later than traditonally has been the case.

This meeting was undoubtedly one of the finest we have ever enjoyed ion our region.

Our next formal meeting in this region will be the mid year meeting and AGM in July 2012.
